 1. The rule

Verb+ to-infinitive	Verb + -ing form
Stop + to - infinitive means that someone or something stops briefly an activity so that they can do something else. He stopped the video to ask the students some questions.	Stop + -ing means the action is not happening any more. I've stopped buying the newspaper because now I read the news online.
Remember + to - infinitive not forget and forget + to - infinitive not remember (refer to recalling (пригадувати)(or not recalling) that there is something we need to do before we do it. Please remember to buy some milk on the way home. He forgot to lock the door when he went out.	Remember + -ing and forget + -ing refer to having (or not having) a memory of something in the past. (Спогади про минуле) I remember watching this film before. I'll never forget meeting you for the first time in this café.

The Infinitive

Note:

1 Help is followed by either the to-infinitive or the bare infinitive.

e.g. He helped me (to) fix the tap.

2 If two infinitives are joined by and, the to of the second infinitive can be omitted.

e.g. He decided to go to university and study biology.

3 We form the negative infinitive with not.

e.g. He decided not to go there.

She may not come.

The -ing form

The -ing form is used:

1 After prepositions.

e.g. He left without saying goodbye.

Sandy is famous for singing songs. Joe is keen on drawing.
