Правила правопису закінчення – ing

1. Дієслова, що закінчуються  німим е, опускають його при додаванні закінчення -ing:
to write — writing;

Проте дві -е залишаються перед закінченням -ing: flee —fleeing

2. Дієслова, що закінчуються на одну приголосну букву, якій передує короткий наголошений голосний звук, подвоюють кінцеву приголосну.
to run — running;
to begin –beginning

3. У дієсловах to lie, to die, to tie при додаванні закінчення -ing букви ie перетворюються в у:
die — dying;
lie — lying;
tie — tying

4. Кінцева буква l подвоюється, якщо їй передує короткий голосний звук (наголошений чи ненаголошений): 
 to travel – travelling
to cancel - cancelling 
    
 5. Закінчення -у не змінюється перед -ing:  to study – studying; to play – playing

6. Кінцева буква r подвоюється, якщо останній склад наголошений і не містить дифтонга:

To pre`fer - preferring
7. Кінцева буква «x» не подвоюється, так як ця буква позначає одразу два звуки: [ks] або ж [gz]. Також не подвоюється кінцева буква «w».

The bus isn`t quicker than the train but it does stop right outside the factory.
