Часи не змінюються в непрямій мові:

1.    Якщо слова автора стоять в the present simple, future or present perfect.

She says, “ I work at school”

Wish/ if only

Wish/ if only + past simple/past continuous (відноситься до теперішнього часу)

To say that we would like something to be different in the present

(коли йдеться про бажання змінити теперішню ситуацію)

I wish/if only I were with you. (Я би хотів бути з вами. На жаль (шкода, що), я не з вами.)

I wish/ if only I had some free time. (Я би хотів мати трохи вільного часу. На жаль (шкода, що), я не маю вільного часу.)

Translate:

If only it weren’t raining today.

I wish I knew how to play the guitar.

Translate:

Якби у мене було більше грошей, я міг би купити цю машину.

If only I had more money, I could buy that car.

Хотів би я бути вищим.

I wish I were taller.

Wish/ if only + past perfect (відноситься до минулого часу)

To express regret that something happened or didn`t happen in the past

( коли йдеться про бажання, які неможливо було реалізувати у минулому. Або висловлюється жаль що до того, що сталось чи не сталось у минулому)

I wish/if only I had bought that camera. (На жаль /шкода що, я не купив той фотоапарат. Якби тільки я купив той фотоапарат.)

I wish/if only I hadn`t stolen the motorbike. (На жаль/шкода що, я вкрав мотоцикл . Якби тільки я не вкрав мотоцикл.)

Translate:

I wish I had studied harder for the exam.

If only I hadn't missed the bus this morning.
