6-A:
1.Дуже добре знати текст, щоб вміти відповідати на питання на оцінку

My favourite room at the moment is our study which is the biggest room in the house. It is full of
wonderful things: books, pictures, collections of stamps and coins, a video and a computer. There is a very old writing table in the study. My great granddad bought it at the beginning of the century when he was a student. It’s very unusual. There is a sofa in the corner of the room and next to it just at the wall a beautiful old standard lamp, which is on the carpet. I clean the carpet with the vacuum cleaner very often on my helping about the house.
There is a piano near the window. At night when it gets dark I like to turn off the light, turn on the standard lamp and play the piano. When the standard lamp is on, the study looks like a fairy-like little land. I often sit in the old armchair and dream.
2. Definitions by heart
A dishwasher - a machine for washing dishes automatically.
A dining table - a table on which meals are served in a dining room.
A mirror is a flat piece of glass. When you look at it you can see yourself reflected in it.
A cupboard is a piece of furniture that has one or two doors, usually contains shelves, and is used to store things.
(usually in the kitchen)
A sink is a large fixed container in a kitchen, with taps to supply water. It is used for washing dishes.
A cooker is a large metal device for cooking food using gas or electricity.
A wardrobe is a tall cupboard or cabinet in which you can hang your clothes.
In a room, the fireplace is the place where a fire can be lit.
A washbasin is a large bowl, usually with taps for hot and cold water, for washing your hands and face.

Where does Halloween come from?
We celebrate Halloween every year on October 31st. Where does the holiday come from?
The holiday originally comes from a people called the Celts. The Celts lived in Europe more than 2000 years ago. On November 1st they celebrated the end of summer. They thought ghosts visited the living on October 31st. They dressed up like ghosts so the spirits would not harm them. Now, people wear costumes of witches and ghosts just for fun.
Today, many countries still remember the dead on November 1st. It is called All Saints Day. Another name for it is All Hallow’s Day. The day before, October 31st, is called All Hallow’s Eve, or Halloween for short.
Halloween is an old tradition in Ireland and Scotland. In those countries, people dressed up and carried lanterns made of turnips. When people moved from Ireland and Scotland to the United States, they started using pumpkins. This is where the jack-o’-lantern comes from.
They also had a tradition of giving food to the spirits. Later, they gave the food to poor people. This is where trick-or-treating comes from. Today, children go trick-or-treating for fun, too.
Halloween has changed a lot since its origins. New people have brought new traditions, and changed the old ones. What do you think Halloween will be like in another two thousand years?

Halloween [`hæləu'i:n]- амер. сокр. от All Hallows' Eve; букв.
Bat – летучая мышь
Spirit – дух
Black cat
Monster - ['mɒnstə]
vampire ['væmpaɪə]

Halloween is a festival that takes place on October 31. In the United States children wear costumes and masks and go trick-or-treating. Many of them carve jack-o'-lantens out of pumpkins. Fortunetelling and storytelling about ghosts and witches are popular activities.
The main Halloween activity for children is trick-or-treating. Children dress in costumes and masks and go from door to door saying "trick or treat". The neighbours give children such treats as candy, fruit and pennies so that children do not play tricks on them.
Jack-o'-lanterns are hollowed-out pumpkins with face carved into one side. Most jack-o'-lanterns contain a candle inside. An Irish legend says that jack-o'-lanterns are named after the man called Jack. He could not enter heaven because he was a miser, and he could not enter hell because he had played jokes on devil. As a result, Jack has to walk on the earth with his lantern until Judgment Day
Fortunetelling is an important part of Halloween. For example, a coin, a ring, and a thimble were baked into a cake. It was believed that the person who found the coin would become wealthy. The one who found the ring would marry soon. And the person who found the thimble would never get married.
People once believed that there were many ghosts and witches on the Earth and that they met on October 31. Today, people do not believe in ghosts and witches but they like to tell stories about them on Halloween.
