Northern Ireland is situated in the north-eastern part of Ireland. Its capital is Belfast. The larger part of Ireland is the independent Irish Republic. The capital of the UK is London.

The UK is separated from the continent by the English Channel and the Strait of Dover. Once the British Isles used to be a part of the continent. The nearest point to Europe is the Strait of Dover

     The United Kingdom is also washed by the Atlantic Ocean in the north and the North Sea in the east.    

     The territory of the United Kingdom is about 244000 square kilometres. It is the 75th place among other countries in the world. The population is over 66 million.
