2. The rule 

USAGE: On time, in time

On time means ‘at the correct or agreed time’;

not early or late;

at the exact time on the clock;

Please arrive on time.

The train was on time.

 

In time means ‘early enough for something or to do something’;

early or at the right time;

early enough

He arrived in time for supper.

Запам’ятай:

Якщо вживається слово right - потрібно використовувати on time: right on time - як раз вчасно,

Якщо ми маємо справу з конструкціями time + for something, time + to do something - потрібно використовувати in: If we hurry up, we will be in time for dinner.

 

 On time or in time:

1. Jane arrived at the station just in time  to see the train draw away from the platform.

2. You’re right on time .

3. We got to the airport in time  to have a coffee before checking in.

4. Fortunately, we landed exactly  on time, so we were able to catch our connecting flight.

5.I returned home just in time  for the start of the football match!

6. The conference was very well organized. Everything began and finished  on time.
