2. Деякі дієслова, що не вживаються у будь якому тривалому часі, можуть вживатись у ньому, якщо мають інше значення:

Present simple	Present continuous
I have an old car. (= мені належить)	I am having a shower. (= я приймаю душ)
I think it`s a good idea. (= я так вважаю) думка	I am thinking about/of how to tell Mark the bad news. (= я роздумую)
I see Ben. (= бачу) I see a bird in the tree ‘He lives here but works in London during the week.’ ‘Oh, I see’  (= I understand, я розумію)	I am seeing Ben tomorrow morning. (= я зустрічаю) I am seeing her as a president. (= я уявляю)
He is stupid. (= взагали)	He is being stupid these days. (= незвичайна поведінка зараз, цими днями) Він поводиться дурником цими днями.
I come from London originally. (= народився)	They are coming from London tomorrow. ( = повертаються)
This coffee tastes delicious. (= на смак, смакує)	Look! The chef is tasting the soup. (= пробувати на смак)
The roses smell nice. (= мають приємний запах)	Why are you smelling the milk? Is it sour? (= нюхає)
I feel you are wrong. (= я думаю, я відчуваю) The fabric feels like velvet. (= на дотик, має структуру) The water feels cold. (= на дотик)	She is feeling the shark's skin to know if it is rougher than it looks. (= торкається)
She weighs 60 kilos. (= має вагу)	She is weighing herself now. (зважує)
He appeares calm and relaxed. (= здається, виглядає)	He is appearing in a new movie at present. (=знімається, виступає)
The jacket’s fine, but the trousers don’t fit. (= не підходят – неправильного розміру)	We are fitting a smoke alarm in the kitchen. (= встановлюємо)
I enjoy/love watching movies (= люблю взагалі)	I am enjoying/loving this movie a lot. (= насолоджуюсь зараз саме цім фільмом, в мене до нього особливе ставлення)
She looks beautiful today. (=вона виглядає)	She is looking at her baby. (= вона дивиться)

 

Примітка:

Дієслова look, коли говоримо про зовнішність, feel, коли говоримо про емоції, hurt (завдати болю, пошкодити), ache (боліти) можна вживати як в present simple, так і в present continuous без різниці в значенні.

My legs ache after all that exercise. - My legs are aching after all that exercise.

I feel a little better. - I’m feeling a little better.

You look wonderful today. – You are looking wonderful today.

My shoulder hurts like hell. - My shoulder is hurting like hell.
