Constructions -  It`s time…  It’s high time…

It’s time – пора, настав час, час, саме час

Схема така:

It’s time + to-infinitive

It`s time to take the tablets. – Час приймати таблетки.

It`s time to tell him the truth. - Настав час сказати йому правду.

Якщо ж ви вказуєте, кому саме час щось зробити, використовуйте прийменник for:

It's time + for + дійова особа + to-infinitive

It’s time for me to take tablets.

Мені час приймати таблетки.

It`s time for them to tell him the truth.

Їм пора сказати йому правду.

It’s high time (that) – давно час, давно пора

використовують, щоб наголосити на терміновості дії і для критики, коли дію слід було б вже виконати, а її всі відкладають.

Схема така:

It’s high time (that) + особа, якій пора щось зробити + дієслово у минулому часі

It’s high time

I You He She It We They The child Tom etc

went home

 

It’s high time (that) he went home.

Йому пора йти додому.

It’s high time(that) we understood the problem.

Нам давно пора зрозуміти проблему.

Примітка 1: незважаючи на те, що дієслово стоїть у минулому часі, переклад робимо у теперішноьму часі

It’ high time they started work.

Їм давно пора починати роботу.

It’s high time не можна поєднувати з інфінітивом і прийменником for.

It's time теж можливо використовувати з дієсловом у минулому часі (але є прості комбінації, частіше використовують їх):

It’s time you started work. - Тобі пора починати роботу.

It’s time you did the test to check your knowledge! - Настав час виконати тест, щоб перевірити свої знання!

4.Translate the sentences into English. Зверніть увагу, що в деяких реченнях можливо два варіанти перекладу.

Тобі давно час прибрати в кімнаті.

Мені давно час піти в спортзал

Тобі давно час знайти нову роботу!

Пора погодувати собаку.

Нам пора переїжджати до Лондона

Нам давно пора підвищити зарплату! ( to get a pay rise)

Чи не пора дітям лягати спати?

Дітям пора спати. (be in bed)

Пора вставати.

Йому час іти на роботу.

Час вигуляти собаку.

Вам давно пора відремонтувати цю полицю

6. You’ve got a letter from your English pen-friend. He/she has recently bought an electronic book reader and is very excited using it. He/she thinks that traditional paper books are no longer necessary and so he/she advises you to use an e-book reader as well. Write a letter to your friend and

• explain your personal attitude to reading in general, and to e-books in particular
• express your opinion about his/her idea that traditional paper books are no longer necessary
• say what role books play in your life

Write a letter of at least 100 words. Do not write your own name, any dates, addresses or other personal information. Start your letter in an appropriate way.
