2. Have been TO / have been IN / have GONE TO

 

have been to використовується, коли ми побували в якомусь місці і повернулися.

 

We have already been to the Zoo three times.

(Ми були у зоопарку вже три рази.)

Note: In this case been is used as the past participle of the verb to go.

So, in this case, "been" is indicating that the speaker or someone else has gone to the zoo on multiple occasions, and it doesn't refer to the state of being but rather to the action of going and returning from that location multiple times.

 

Have gone to використовується, коли ми пішли/ поїхали куди-небудь і ще не повернулися.

 

Mum has gone to the supermarket to buy some food.

(Мама пішла у супермаркет, щоб купити їжу.)

 

Have been in використовується, коли ми поїхали куди-небудь та досі там знаходимося. (Зазвичай те, що ми там знаходимось деякий час, вказують слова for – протягом якогось часу, або since – з якогось часу)

 

My grandfather has been in hospital since Monday (or for a week)

(Мій дідусь у лікарні з понеділка (або тиждень)
